Permanent Eyebrows

Permanent eyebrows help you have perfect-looking brows at all times. Here at About Face, we offer two different brow techniques.

Microstroke brows are where strokes are made in the brow area to mimic the look of natural brow hairs. This technique is very natural and best for normal to dry skin as it does not retain well in oily skin.

Powder brows are done using a technique that gives you more of a makeup look without the actual makeup. This bolder technique will give you a more shaded powder look that will last longer for those with oily skin.

Eyebrow Tattoo Process with Robin Hays

Step 1: Personalized Consultation & Design

At the heart of every eyebrow procedure with Robin is the understanding that no two faces are alike. Each client has unique facial anatomy, skin characteristics, and aesthetic goals. Robin begins with a comprehensive consultation to evaluate your features, discuss your expectations, and design an eyebrow shape that enhances your natural proportions.

This stage includes:

• A detailed assessment of facial symmetry and brow placement

• Discussion of pigment tone and desired style (natural, soft, or defined)

• A preview of your customized brow mapping for approval

With her extensive background in paramedical and cosmetic tattooing, Robin applies both artistry and precision to design brows that harmonize with your facial structure and reflect your individuality.

Step 2: Precision Pigmentation Procedure

Once your design is finalized, the treatment area is prepared following strict hygiene and medical-grade safety protocols. A topical anesthetic is applied to ensure maximum comfort. Robin then performs the tattooing using advanced micropigmentation techniques — whether fine, hair-like strokes or a soft shaded effect — depending on your skin type and desired outcome.

Each movement is deliberate, controlled, and designed to achieve optimal pigment retention and symmetry. Throughout the procedure, your comfort, skin response, and overall results remain the top priorities.

Step 3: Healing, Review & Perfection Session

After your initial treatment, the skin undergoes a natural healing process over the following weeks. You’ll receive comprehensive aftercare instructions to promote optimal healing and pigment retention.

A follow-up appointment is typically scheduled 6–8 weeks later to evaluate the healed results and perform any necessary refinements. This ensures your brows heal evenly, maintain color balance, and meet your aesthetic expectations.

The final result is a set of beautifully balanced, natural-looking eyebrows that complement your features and restore confidence — crafted with the precision, safety, and artistry that define Robin Hays’ practice.

Eyebrow Tattoo FAQ's

Who is a good candidate for an eyebrow tattoo?

You’re a great candidate if you have thinning brows, sparse areas, asymmetry, or simply want to reduce daily brow makeup effort. We evaluate your skin type, medical history, and expectations to ensure your safety and optimal results. Those with certain skin conditions, active dermatological issues, or recent facial procedures may require a consultation to confirm suitability.

Which technique is best for me — microstroke (hair-like strokes) or powder shading?

Microstroke (aka hair strokes or microblading): We create fine, individual strokes that mimic natural hairs. This gives a softer, highly realistic result. It’s ideal for clients with normal to dry skin, since oilier skin may blur the strokes faster.

Powder / Ombre / Shaded technique: This method produces a more filled, makeup-inspired effect. It tends to last longer, especially on oily or combination skin, because pigment is placed more densely.

During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin type, facial structure, and preferred style to recommend the technique that delivers the best longevity and aesthetic match.

Is the procedure painful?

Most clients describe a mild, tolerable discomfort rather than sharp pain. We apply a medical-grade topical anesthetic before and during the procedure to minimize sensation. Your comfort is a top priority throughout the treatment.

How long does the eyebrow tattoo last?

Results typically persist 1 to 3 years, with gradual fading over time. Several factors influence longevity:

• Skin type and oiliness

• Sun exposure and UV protection

• Your aftercare discipline

• Lifestyle (e.g. frequent facials, swimming, skincare ingredients)

We recommend a touch-up session 12 to 18 months after the initial treatment, and occasional color refreshers thereafter to maintain crispness and tone.

What is the healing process like?

Days 1–3: The treated area may feel sensitive, and mild swelling or redness is normal.

Days 4–10: Skin will form a light scab or flake; pigment may appear slightly darker initially.

Weeks 2–4: The brow color will soften and “settle in.”

Weeks 4–8: We assess the healed pigment and schedule any necessary corrections or adjustments.

You’ll receive a detailed aftercare guide, including cleaning instructions, recommended products, and restrictions (e.g. no swimming, sauna use, or heavy sweating during early healing).

Are there any risks or side effects?

As with any skin procedure, there is a (small) risk of:

• Infection (mitigated by strict hygiene and sterile protocols)

• Allergic reaction (we use high-quality pigments and recommend patch testing)

• Over- or under-pigmentation

• Uneven fading or color change over time

We adhere to medical-grade sanitation, use proper sterilization, and conduct a thorough consultation to minimize risks.

Can I still shape or fill my brows with makeup afterward?

Yes — you may enhance or define your brows with makeup if desired. However, our goal is for your tattooed brows to look naturally finished on their own, minimizing or eliminating the need for daily filling

How should I prepare for my appointment?

• Avoid Retinoids, Accutane, chemical peels, or any strong exfoliants for at least 2–4 weeks prior.

• Discontinue use of blood-thinning supplements (e.g. fish oil, NSAIDs) after consulting your physician.

• Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine 24 hours before your appointment.

• Come with clean skin (no makeup or moisturizers in the brow area).

• If you have medications or medical history (e.g. bleeding disorders, autoimmune conditions), let us know in advance.

What aftercare steps must I follow?
